It's Halloween!!!

It's finally here! It's finally here!! The one day of the one day of the year where you can be anyone or anything you like without being classified as crazy. I would like to dedicate this Halloween to Joe. I know you're asking who the hell is Joe?

Well you see, Joe is our local "crazy person". Every city has one of those. You know the person who is considered crazy because he/she doesn't give a crap about what anyone thinks about them. Well, anyways, every couple of months, Joe goes on these trips where he gets obsessed with one thing or another. He used to carry a boombox around with him and march up and down the streets , yeah, like a real old school boombox, no iPod for him. Other random things like wearing a pink shirt every single day for six months straight, carrying a fishing rod everywhere complete with a dead fish on the end, giving out ice cream cones to old people and refusing to wear shoes for months on end.

Anyways, I hadn't seen Joe in a long time mostly because I'm a writer and therefore a virtual recluse (haha just kidding, kind of). Last night, hubby and I went on our usual Sunday night, pre-movie, junk food/pizza run and I saw Joe. He was dressed in a Batman costume. Because I live in Brazil at the moment, I was SOOO happy to see someone wearing a Halloween costume. I went up to him and said HAPPY HALLOWEEN, he smiled. People in the store started snickering and pointing. I was confused.  Hubby looked uncomfortable. Anyways, after Joe walked away, hubby kindly informed me that Joe's latest kick is superheroes. For the past few months, he's been dressing in Batman/Superman/Spiderman costumes. It wasn't a Halloween costume, it was just Joe being Joe.

At first, I was horrified that I may have embarrassed him, but then I thought about it. I thought about the evil villagers snickering at him and how vapid they really are. I mean from my perspective, Joe has courage. He doesn't give a crap about what people think about him every day of the year. He doesn't need Halloween as an  excuse to express himself. He's not afraid of being different and showing how he feels. I think that we can all learn from Joe and add a little Halloween to our day to day lives.

So this Halloween, I raise my glass of witch's brew in the air and toast Joe. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Being Creepy is Okay

I think we’re all so obsessed with the paranormal because it allows us to live in a world where being different is okay. I truly believe that deep within us all, there is a morbid fascination with death, darkness and the unknown. Paranormal books, movies, etc. are so awesome because they  allow us to explore darker parts of ourselves without being judged.

So anyways, I think being creepy is okay. Be proud of your creepy nature! Don't hide it or be ashamed of it!

If you’re lucky, you can be creepy and sexy. Just look at Nick…

Uninvited

Sigh this song needs to be on the soundtrack when Bound becomes a movie.
